Shift linkage not lined up
 

Heres a few pics of what I did for shifter linkage. I put threads on the shifter linkage and put on that long nut thing, but its not lining up right and it doesnt feel like its working perfectly. I know I need to put a couple springs on the linkage down by the tranny to keep it in place. Do I just need to adjust the bolt down more until it lines up in park?

I'd like to know how to adjust this too. My park is in the same place.

Try putting a rod end on the linkage arm ( remove the bolt and "long" hex nut that you have on there now ) where it attaches to the column tab. This will allow for "some" mis-alignment and gives you some adjustability. You will need a "female" rod end to match what ever threads are on the shaft and the bolt may be a 3/8" ( not sure ) that attaches the rod end to the shifter tab.

Very professional looking job on the linkage. I used what I had on hand for my son's truck. A 3/8 bolt, 3"-4" long with 2 hose clamps. His was in the 6cyl spot with a V8 rod and it worked great. He had a later model GM car tilt column with no indicator but it worked for all gears.

I'm guessing your linkage was too short but with the union and bolt it may now be too long. Use a rod end like in the previous post or you may have to thread more of the rod and cut it off. Put it in park with the rod disconnected and see where it lines up with the transmission in park. You may want to try the long bolt with hose clamps just make sure you can get all gears. Cut threads and cut to length for either your setup or a rod end and then re-check to make sure you can shift through all the gears with it connected.

I know Lokar makes a linkage kit for the trans, i think the $ range is $45-60, depending on where you buy it. It is a rod, rod ends and an adjustable tab that bolts to the shifting arm on the side of the trans, that would probably be the easiest way to correct the alignment issues.

The down rod is supposed to slide in a pinch nut so as to give you adjustability.It looks like with your setup it needs to be sortend some how.You may can get a little more out of the (allthead nut)or run a die and thread it down lower to give you more adjustment.

You May Can Try Turning Your Column To The Left A Little. But Use Caution It Can Throw Your Neutral Safety Switch Out Of Whack!!!!

Thanks everybody. It was really easy to do. I just shortened that threaded nut by about half an inch, then adjusted the linkage while in park.
