Is This Right Or Not???????

4 Attachment(s)
I just put a 8in lift in my 70. I need to know if the steering linkage is right. [PITMANARM TO KNUCKLE ARM] It looks like it is at to much of an angle.I used the raised knuckle arm that came with the kit, but it still looks wrong. Do i need a droped pitmanarm too. Any help and pics of yours would be great. thanks P.S. PLEASE DONT TELL ME TO GO TO CROSSOVER STEERING, THIS WILL NEVER EVEN BE PUT IN 4 WD.[STREET ONLY.]Attachment 273281

Don't drive it that way! That's a severe enough angle to bind the sockets & possibly tear them apart. You will need the drop pittman, & possibly even an offset drag link. Keep in mind the front end will drop some when you get the truck fully assembled- I'd wait & see if you need the offset drag link after it is all back together. And yes, you want it as close to flat horizontal as possible. Even with everything right, you will probably have a lot of bumpsteer with such a big arch front spring.

I'm just curious, why put that much lift on and not even use it as a 4wd? I can see people doing that with small lifts but not with an 8" suspension lift.

69step, its what i want, why put airbags and lay fram when you cant drive that way, same reason personal choice.

Yep, the pitman shaft splines are the same.

Post some pics when you are done with everything, looks like it's gonna be a nicely detailed truck :metal:

I think you messed up and put one of the tie rod arms on instead of the pitman arm. Don't they make pitman arms with some serious step? I know nothing about 4x4's......I drive under them!

wow, lotta lift... crossover isn't just for the serious off-roader. Other trucks have them factory (Ferds do). Bump steer can happen on a dirt trail or your mall parking lot speed bump....

Nice truck though..

:agree: Don't take our advice as criticism, we just don't want you to be dissapointed in how it drives when you get it done. Bumpsteer, darting, tracking rutted asphalt and a big turning radius will be inevitable with an OE type setup. The arch of the springs working in the same plane as the drag link will be what causes this.

Thanks, guys. Ill see how it drives then decide again on the crossover.

Simlpy put, a cross over set up will be safer and work better with that much lift.

Cross over was invented for a reason, be smart, be safe.

Look at it this way:Even sitting still you are at an extreme angle that you`d get into off road with less or no lift.
I didn`t know there was a dropped pitman arm made.I`ve only seen the dropped drag link and raised steering arm.Who offers a dropped pitman arm?
