Manual or power steering
I do not have the steering done yet. And have always have power. Just wondering how manual would be in a 67 swb with a 454.

Re: Manual or power steering
Depends on your driving. If you are running in town alot, especially if you have large /wide wheels and tires go power. Otherwise, I like the feel of the manual steering myself.

Re: Manual or power steering
Mainly thinking of keeping it simple up front and lees weight.

Re: Manual or power steering
Weight and wheel/tire width are the factors to take into consideration. With a Big Block you will have added weight on the front wheels. If you run wide tires on the front you will increase the amount of force required to turn the truck even more.If you are going to be doing a lot of parking lots, parallel parking and tight manuvering you will want power steering by someone besides"Armstrong".JMHO

Re: Manual or power steering
we have a truck with a big block and manual steering. we use this truck to pull around a trailer for or lawncare business and when we have to constantly back up a trailer at low speeds with stock tires it is hell to try to watch where you are going and steer at the same time. now that i'm done ranting i would say go with power because of that added weight and any kind of slow manuvering will not be fun.

Re: Manual or power steering
Power steering all the way! I don't regret that $90.00 one bit. Huge improvement, especially if you back a trailer.

Re: Manual or power steering
Power steering .... I drove a 58 Vette with manual steering last year and they say memory is the first thing to go. Well I've driven many of these cars and I don't remember the steering so bad and the wheel so huge.

Re: Manual or power steering
Currently have manual steering with 215 75 r15 front tires. I do a lot of in town driving. I can't wait to have power steering!!! JMHO.

Re: Manual or power steering
Power steering, manual steering is a b*tch, period.

Re: Manual or power steering
I have a '67 and have the manual steering and manual brakes with 4 wheel drums. I have to go careful with heavy braking-tends to pull to the side. The manual steering is a real pain in parking lots and sharp turning but I can live with these. I like the truck kind of original-how it was built. I could easily change these but I prefer to keep it original. I guess it's ones preference.

I can't think of any reason not to upgrade, unless it's a matter of keeping the truck completely stock for competition purposes.

Re: Manual or power steering
When I converted mine a few months back my K5 went from two-armed parking lot maneuvers to two-fingers. WAAAAAYYYY better.

Re: Manual or power steering
I say power.

Re: Manual or power steering
I have to say power, drove mine for 3 years with manual steering and it wasnt too bad except for very slow turns. Put on power a few weeks ago and havent looked back...
