Dealer installed a/c

I have seen a lot of discussion about aftermarket a/c but can not find a discussion of the usefullness of an a/c system that was added years ago at the dealer. Has anyone removed one of these systems from one truck and added it to another. I have access to a very complete dealer installed system but would like to know how well this works. It seems to me that it would be much cheaper than one of the new aftermarket systems. The one I am looking at is currently installed on a truck. It works and blows cold air so I know that part is ok. How involved is the installation? It would seem if I took a lot of good pictures before removing the old system that it should be fairly straight forward to install on the other truck. Of course I would keep the system sealed so I don't have all those worries. I am sure someone has done this.

I'm not sure about this one..........It seems like a lot of work to try to re-use old parts. It may work just fine right where it is...but I don't see moving it w/o problems/breakage. Then you are looking for replacement parts for an add-on unit. These can't be the easiest thing to find.

As a side note.....You will never get that apart/uninstalled and keep the freon inside. You may be able to hack up the truck that it is coming out of to get the lines out, but it won't go back in that way. Besides the fact that it is just plain dangerous to be fiddling around with pressurized 40 year old lines/fittings and expect them not to break.

Go with aftermarket, you will know where you stand from the begining and what you can expect in the end.
