crossover steering 2wd gearbox?
 

Anyone have a 2wd 1970 suburban gear box laying around (are the 1/2ton just like the 3/4 ton gear boxes?) I have the 3/4 ton....I want to do crossover steering on my 4x4 but what Im hearing you need the 2wd box and it bolts in exactly where/like the 4x4 box does??? Any thoughts?

any 2wd box up to 1989 will work there all the same. but yo u will need a steering arm from a ford or a jeep or a manual chevy box that drops down for the convertion.

Now I will have an 8" lift so will be getting a drop pitman arm most likely, now are those arms keyed and only go on one direction or can they be rotated (if so what direction should the pitman face?)

When it comes to cross over the drop pitman arm has nothing to do with the sive of lift it has to do with fram clearnce you have to use an arm that will not hit the frame when you turn.The arm faces the rear and they are splined so you can move them any were you want but if you were to flip your stock arm to the rear when you turn it would hit the frame. The easyest arm to get is one off a Yj but you will have to get it reamed out to use the chevy Tie rod end or drilled for a regular rod end. you can also use a manual steering arm from a 67 or 68 truck most kits use one off a ford truck but I cant remeber the years.

78-79 stock ford 150 and bronco arms, or with an 8 you'll want the 4" dropped arm, any box from 69 to 80 will work or if you use a 81 and up you'll need to swap hoses to fit the o ring fittings. the arms have 4 indexing points so you have 90* adjustments. the amr should sit parrellel to the frame though with the wheels straight forward.

I had all of this on my 68 burb but I have since changed to a 2wd suspension and I'm in the process of lowering it.
