Transfer case leak??
Got a 85 Silverado 4X4 that loses its tranny fluid and stops pulling but if you let it sit a while and check majority of the fluid is back and it will pull again. What are some things to look for as far as with the transfer case? Is there a way to tell if it is forcing the fluid into the transfer case? Is there an overflow tube because I am getting quite a bit of fluid coating the underside but can't pinpoint the leak. It is definitely not the trans front seal.... Thanks for the help!

Re: Transfer case leak??
I have heard of a leak source being the speedo cable input..duno if that is your issue but thought I would mention it anyway...
Maybe you have the transfer case that runs on tranny fluid? |
Re: Transfer case leak??
I am pretty sure the transfer case is the NP203 which uses tranny fluid. I am just thinking maybe the rear trans seal is gone and it is forcing the fluid into the transfer case but I have no way of checking that.

Re: Transfer case leak??
Sorry, I don't know anything about auto trannys or NP203s..other than they are chain drivin.
Hey at least my comments are keeping your post to the top for others to read  |
Re: Transfer case leak??
Sorry....seems it is a NP208....misread the tag. Does it seem realistic that my transmission might still be spared if I figure out it is just the rear seal and the transfer case is overfull? Once it loses enough fluid that it quits pulling I shut it off.
