All tilts are black, but????

What color were the steering wheels on tilts? All black? Same color as interior, like non-tilt trucks?
I must have that answer here somewhere, but several of you probably already know and can tell me.
Who has a 71-2 with black tilt and colored wheel, original & correct?
Thanks,
Frank

As far as I know, if it had tilt it had a black wheel.

X 2 :agree:, I have personally parted several 71/72 trucks with option N33 comfortilt wheel and of those verified to be original, all had the black wheel regardless of the interior color. Cb :bowtie:

Black is the only thing I have seen on trucks thought almost for sure to be original.

But I have nothing that states these facts just experience.

I've only ever seen black on black. The '69 tilt I bought had a black wheel on it.

black on black is all i've ever seen, in real life and in original GM literature. i don't recall ever seeing anywhere it actually "says" tilts are all supposed to be black but that's an unwritten rule i guess.

Thanks for the help everyone.
I am about to "pop" a tilt in a little SWB 4x4 I just got and want to add the correct steering wheel---the Grant's gotta go!
I'll post some pics soon. It is a cool little stock Cheyenne short fleet.

Re: All tilts are black, but????

The two trucks I have with factory tilts the columns were black with black steering wheels. When I restored my 71 I decided to painted the column the same color as the interior and now I know why GM painted them black. They are a pain to put together and not scratch.

I have yet to see a color matched van tilt, but then again I seem to always be learning/seeing something new. I have five keyless van tilts on the shop floor and three more upstairs, all were removed from various years of GM vans and they are all oe black with black steering wheels. Cb :bowtie:

I have one that`s saddle. But,I bought it as rebuilt back in`90.It was in "like new" condition and the guy had others in colors. It was back when I only knew hundreds of things about these trucks and not thousands:rolleyes:(still learnin`).I thought it was a truck column at the time of purchase and he let me believe it.All those years I never had anyone point out that the column wasn`t original in that truck.Just comments,"I see it has tilt, too".

You seem to find all those cool parts and part trucks.
Wish I was still in the parts business
