Window channels questions
 

I've read some execllent posts on replacing vent windows and redoing the window channels but still have a few questions that someone who's done this might answer:

1. Is it necessary to remove the rear window channel in order to remove the old felt and put in the new?
2. How are the the window seals (outside, lower part of glass opening) attached?

Two good questions and I don't know if they have really been elaborated on, at least with some nice pictures. I would like to know too - I've got to re-do my windows.

If I get an answer, I'll try to get my camera out and add an FAQ that shows this part of the job.

It is not necessary to remove the rear channel when replacing the window seals. The old seal will peel out and the new seal can be "stuffed in". It is a good practice to glue the upper part of the seal for 4-6 inches to keep it from working downward.

The lower window seals, (window fuzzies?) are held in place with clips that "stab" into small rectangular holes stamped into the inside of the door. They act like fishhooks and are difficult to remove usually. If you have a windshield clip removal tool it can be used to pull the clips out.
