I've lost the spring to my Grant steering wheel
I've lost the spring to my Grant steering wheel. It's the spring that goes into the brass tube and connects with the horn button. I've found a steel spring at a hardware store that'll fit inside the tube, but it's much stiffer than I remember the original being and it's also longer. Could someone measure their original spring and give me the length? Might as well give me the diameter just for kicks. I'm not sure if this will work especially since the spring I have is stiffer, but I figure I'll just cut the steel spring to length and install it and find out.
Also, I can't remember which way the brass 'cup' or 'tube' points when it's positioned properly. Would someone give me guidance? |
Re: I've lost the spring to my Grant steering wheel
Does Grant have any instructions on their website? The smaller side of the cup goes down in the opening that the spring goes in. They're tricky to install, I do remember that. Would Grant sell individual parts for their products? Did you check on their website?

I just checked on their site and didn't find much info.

Re: I've lost the spring to my Grant steering wheel
I used a spring out of an ink pen once. Ya might have to stretch it a little to get close to original length? Had to buy another adapter kit to get the original spring if I needed.
