I got an offer

This is such a tempting offer....
I have my burb on craigslist and a few other places (no I am not posting the info here)... but I am asking for cash or trade and got an email today from a guy offering to trade his 89 Chevy 350 SS... very tempting but I am looking for a Jeep Wrangler (CJ or YJ)....
still I have this nagging feeling that maybe I should just trade and barter using that truck...
The down side is that he is in Pensacola which is an hours drive, so with my burb at 10mpg, and if his truck ends up not running right or unable for me to drive it home, thats a whole lot of gas gone (about $50 worth)!

Does anyone recognize his truck here and if so would it be worth the trade? He is looking for a bigger beast to haul trailers and it wouldn't hurt to have something a bit smaller in front of my house that is not being driven....

My burb:

got more info on his truck.... I think I will trade.... as long as he doesn't ask for any money

Has a powerful 350 engine with 700R4 overdrive transmission. Odometer reads about 189K but engine and trans have both been replaced. Some mods have been done including a Holley 670 throttle body, Airaid cold air intake, Full Flowmaster dual exhaust, 15X10 AR Torque Thrust wheels, rear end lowered 2", also have Poweraid TBI spacer to go on it but not installed. Reciever hitch with air shocks for towing. Has had new radiator, alternator, starter, all within the last year. Has had complete tune up, new throttle and trans cables, new shocks, idler arm, and all new brakes and hardware since first of the year. Really like my truck but just need more room!!!

Why did you say this was an SS? This truck isn't an SS, just so you know. The last real SS truck came in years 90-93 and it had a 454 monster in it.

Re: I got an offer

There is a good thread on the '90+ Chevy "Sport" and GMC "Sierra GT" trucks in the 88-98 forum.
The consensus is that although there may have been some trucks dressed as "SS 350" from the dealers, GM did not make that truck. It is most likely the dealer took a "Sport" and made it an "SS".

It seems some of the "Sport" trucks were more basic, but most I have seen advertised looked to be optioned the same as a 454SS, but with a 350 (5.7) and an overdrive tranny.

Our new firewall here at work blocks most images so I can't see the image in the original post, but IIRC, it is a stepside. I do not believe they made any stepside "Sport" trucks and am also pretty sure '90 was the first year. Same year as the 454SS.

All that said, the picture made the truck look decent.
If it is everything the guy says it is, it is something you are interested in and you don't need the beast anymore it might be a good deal for you.

the SS-350 is right there on the official side strips:

not sure why a dealer would do that since the SS and Sport trucks tend to fetch about the same price in most cases.

Stylin concepts and a few other companies used to sell those badges. They replace the "1500" in the moldings. There wasn't a "SS350" from GM.

FWIW, I like the wheels on it, though.

From what I understand the dealers were getting a lot of foot traffic for the 454SS trucks but a lot of people were shying away from the 12-14mpg.
And the 454 trucks were pretty under-whelming performance wise especially considering the mileage hit you were taking.
So the dealers tried to cash in on the SS hype with a more reasonable version.

On a separate note, that truck has a GMC grill? Is it just a grill or???

I don't understand this at all. Your considering trading your Burb for a regular cab truck because you need more room? I had to read this twice to make sure I didn't have it backwards.

I could be wrong, but I took that entire last paragraph to be from the guy interested in trading him for his 'burb?

Re: I got an offer

sorry for taking so long to get back here.... we went out there that day and took a look at it and it seems to have more mods than I care to mess with and everything is rigged so I wouldn't feel safe driving it out of town back home... so this is a non-issue now

I think you made the right choice here.

Re: I got an offer

thanks... it was a VERY clean and nice looking truck and I would have minded pulling it onto a trailer (if I had one) to haul it home but not a truck swap to have me drive that home.... my burb has been very reliable and I would rather it goes to someone whos not a "rigger"
