Stacked headlights?
Was this an option?
I think it was in 67-68? Square stacked headlights. Cant find pics sorry. |
Re: Stacked headlights?
I'm on dail-up so can't add pics. It was a custom job. If you have seen pics, and if we are thinking the same thing here, then where the 67-68 have the 2 slots in the grille, these 4 square lights are mounted in these and the chrome rings are extended around these lights. I like what your talking about but don't really want to change my old truck up any, IMO oldschool doesn't need to change.
To make it easier, its like early to mid 80's silverados. 80-87 I believe but I could be wrong. |
Re: Stacked headlights?
Nope, not an option back then. They didn't start the square stacked headlights until the 80's. I don't think that the square headlights even existed back then, just the round T3 headlights.

Re: Stacked headlights?
Are you guys sure? If so then there were LOTS of em!

It wasn't until '81 or '82 that Chevy/GMC had quad headlights, that were stacked. GMC had quad, ROUND headlights since '58, although some vehicles had dual 7" headlights or (later) dual rectangular headlights. |

Re: Stacked headlights?
I absolutely, positively, 100% for sure guarantee those headlamps on that truck did not come from the factory. Period. They are custom. Did not come from the factory like that. Nope nope nope. Take it to the bank.

You guys dont have to get so mad. I was asking a question then you contradict my reply and then you.....

Re: Stacked headlights?
;)If you wanted stacked headlights back then, they had to be stacked next to each other in the form of a GMC.

Re: Stacked headlights?
those may be stock, part of the option package that included the stacks, mud flaps, and snap-on bed cover.

Re: Stacked headlights?
In the mid-60's, when I had just graduated from high school, Cibie made the only rectangular headlights seen in a custom. An example would be the '65-66Mustangs that Sonny and Cher had customized. Ford did some show cars that used them. It was a trick thing. The Federal Highway Transportation Agency didn't approve anything for U.S. usage that wasn't round and incandescent, for the highways. Therefore, square headlights were not an approved highway lighting device. The Cibies that were used in show cars were for show, only, not for highway usage.
I'm not gonna say we are the most intelligent group in the world, meaning I'm not a member of MENSA, so we reserve the right to be wrong. There's an old saying that goes like this: "Don't believe anything you hear and only HALF of what you see". Granted the stacked quad headlights on the '67-8 look like they could have been there from the git-go, but (as I said earlier) find me a part number for them that will be from that era, '67-72. Yeah, those look good, but they're not OEM for that body style. You can trust us on that one. If someone is new to this body style, i.e., younger than a lot of us, I can see how it would be possible to see something that looked right and wasn't. |

Looks like the guy who built the truck above has a secret love for Dodge.

Re: Stacked headlights?
I can't find any pics, but I know of 1 that has headlights like the pic above, but they are smaller and the chrome grille trim is custom made to wrap around the lights. It was really neat and IMO better looking by far.

Re: Stacked headlights?
there were no square headlights on US cars or trucks untill 76 if I recall... the 76 cutlass and one of the caddys were the only ones to do it... maybe it was 75...
none of these trucks had them. |
Re: Stacked headlights?
Single rectangular headlamps in GM trucks in 1980.In`81 GM started using quad lights, one on top of the other,in the optional front end appearance.Alot of guys were using 73/74 Monte Carlo headlamps in 73-80 trucks along with cab spoilers, tube grilles, sunroofs, and louvers in anything that could be punched.I haven`t seen an abundance of 67-72 trucks with square lights...thank God.

Re: Stacked headlights?
Sorry, I've been biting my tongue on this one. Maybe this is one of those "rare" parts he was looking for.... ;)
In all seriousness, listen to the guys here. They know what they are talking about. |

The pic you posted was of an extremely well done job. It just wasn't done by the General. |
Re: Stacked headlights?
No... my eyes!!!! :D
Does look a lot like that Dodge version. |
Re: Stacked headlights?
They are kind of neat looking on that truck, but alas no, they weren't stock...

Re: Stacked headlights?
I dont think they fit with the grill at all. When they are on the dodges the chrome bezel lines up with the top and bottom of the grill inserst but who ever stuck them in that chevy didnt really line the bezel up with anything, Mostly because there isnt really anything to line them up with since it is an area that was designed for one round headlight. Just my .02
