carburetor
I was just wondering what carb everybody is running.
I have a 69 w/ a 350 and an Edelbrock carb on it and every time someone sees it they say its junk or you should have gotten a Holley. It came with the truck when i bought it and just wanted to know if it was really that bad of a carb. Thank You |
Re: carburetor
First off, welcome to the board!! Do not take this wrong, as it isn't pointed at you, but more at folks that suggest one part over another (usually brand loyalty here) Opinions are like A-holes as they say and this si pretty much a question of opinion over any real facts. I like Edel, Holleys, Demons, etc, etc. Each has it's place and application, an edel is a decent performer, but is also easy to tune and then are a decent economy carb if tuned right. Is there anything wrong with the carb or the way it runs? If not tell your buddies they can give you parts advice when they start buying them!!

Re: carburetor
The carb you run on your truck depends on a lot of things, like is the engine stock, do you want good gas mileage, what came on the truck and such.
I have a Q-jet on my stock 350 and it runs well and gets pretty good gas mileage. My son calls them Quadra-junk and perfers Holleys. His type of driving is different than mine he likes to smoke tires and go fast where as my truck is a daily driver. Hope this helps. Danny |

The engine has headers, edel. intake mild rv cam and Hei and I'd rather have power over gas millage. It is a 4x4 and i enjoy four wheeling and such. But today i parked on a slanted ditch and when i got back in th e truck it took like 3-4 minutes to start. |
Re: carburetor
Edelbrock 1406, never had any trouble out of it, starts easy clean crisp throttle response.:metal::metal:

People that say edelbrocks are junk know how to set up holley carbs because that is the hardest part of a holley. I my self just took the jump from edelbrock 1406 to a speed demon 650 and once I got it tuned and the floats set and jetted...Now it is very crisp and feels like it has more pep. I don't have a problem with edelbrocks because I ran them for years but now I think I will keep my demon. Heres the new set up going on when I get my heads done.

Re: carburetor
I like holleys but have nothing against edelbrocks I say if it works well for you than run it . I 've been tuning holleys for years and I guess that's why I always use them but there not for everyone. Bob

Re: carburetor
My dad always says that he loves holleys because there easy to work on but i got my edelbrock tuned in pretty good so it should be ok.
