I hate deer!!! bambi got my c20...ARRRGH!!!
 

Never even saw it until it was spinning on the road behind me... About 11am this morning I was doing about 60 on a county road heading into school to do a little cleaning in my shop before the school year starts and I guess I have more to do than I thought... took out my RV mirror and nice size dent in the drivers door, drip edge, and bedside... seems I can't drive one of these trucks w/o hitting a deer (or a deer hitting me) at some point... My 74 got hit about 3 years ago about a week after I wet sanded and buffed the whole truck out.... oh well, at least I wasnt on the motorcycle or I'm sure I owouldnt be typing this.... I m amazed though at the durability of these trucks in terms of sheet metal... the door glass didnt even break, nor is the door even misaligned with the cab... if this was our littel F*** Contour milage runner Im sure it would have totalled it... well here are the pics,....

UHHMMM, tenderloins at your house tonight?? I love deer, just not on the road!! I lived in PA for years and my Dad still does, he got one just like that about 2 yrs ago. He saw it and slowed down, then it rammed him anyways!! He said it stood up, shook it's head and staggered off!! Crushed the whole fender/door area!! Glad you are here to write about it!

Sorry to hear about the truck, season opens here for archery in Sept, I know a lot of people who have hit 1 this summer and are looking for revenge.

Anytime I hear hunters rave about how smart deer are, I think back to this spring when my wife and I were sitting at a red light in a Philadelphia suburb -- shopping center on our right, neighborhood on our left -- and this stupid deer comes running out of the shopping center parking lot, crashes into the right-rear quarter of her Civic, flips over the trunk lid, and takes off running into the neighborhood. Stupid animals. Got a nice wrinkle in the quarter now.

yeah i admit ive never seen a deer in miami (only been there twice)

but i got 3 friends that have been "Ran into" here in central florida just this year.

our deer are smaller truck usually wins.

That is a lot of damage from a deer on one of these trucks, you are right a lesser vehicle would have sustained major damage!

I once got hit sitting at a traffic light when mommy was chasing a scared bambi. Bambi hit my front fender andmommy jumped over (almost clearing) my hood. I was glad I was in a company vehicle at the time. :)

I'm with you on that Al, Bambi doesn't seem to be an issue down here. Just hope the gators don't get stirred up or we'll really have problems.

One hit me in my '65 Mustang one night. I thought I was going to be sick until I got out and found there wasn't a scratch on the car. If it had been my Z71 I would have had to replace a fender most definitely. Old sheet metal rocks.

I feel sorry for the trk!! Good thing is your ok! I've been close to hitting a couple in GA, got one 2yrs back in dads 3500 cummings, good thing there was a bully bar deer went abouth 20ft in front of me spinning like a draddle..m.s..

As overpopulated as it is here I am surprised that you only have three friends that have been run into. We have a hell of alot of idiots on the road.
Can you imagine if we had deer to worry about also?

Thanks for the replys fellas... I even parked it in a doifferent spot so I wouldnt have to look at it whn I go out my front door.... I am sop crunched for time right now I dont knwo when Im gonna be able to get to it... HOPEFULLY in the next few weeks, but with the hits getting the dody lines pretty good, im not sure how well the repirs of those panels will turn out... I do have a different door (non 72 :() but I dont have a different bedside, so the search begins I guess... I "think" I can salvage the mirror, but I may need to find one of those too... oh well gives me an extra excuse to go to the swap meet next saturday!!!! Well I have to help my wife with a late supper... just watch it out there, specially you MN drivers..

This really does blow chunks.I hate seeing such a nice truck macked-out in such an unavoidable circumstance.
Deer are really smart.They just have problems dealing with man`s encroachment and breaking up their paths with our roads.They have their instinctual patterns and can not change them to accomodate mankind.Roads are not natural to them.They can`t comprehend 60 mph and how fast something comes at you at that speed.They are used to being able to turn,dodge,and outrun most anything that threatens them.They can`t deal with hardtop and 60mph.There`s always going to be these cases where there`s just nothing we can do.But,understanding how a deer`s mind works surely helps avoid many collisions.That is our best defense against such a mishap.Not calling them stupid or wishing them all away.
In case you can`t tell,I love nature as much as I love these trucks,and that`s alot...ya think?:cool:

Yeah I do to.. Im stuck on living out here in the country, and after having spent 12 years out in eastern PA (Reading), the upper midwest is still home. My wife and I are currently looking for a chunk of land (10+ acres min) that we can build a cozy home out in the woods somewhere so we can get up in the morning and watch the deer cruise through our yard... i don't really hunt, but I do love nature... I just wish I could set up an agreement that Ill leave them alone if they leave my trucks alone :)...
