Ordered Old Air A/C system.
After reading on here about peoples 's problems with vintage air systems fogging up their windows, I started looking into Old Air systems.
So today I called them up to see if they could get me a custom setup since I already have a compressor on the front of my 5.3L. I also have the condensor. So after talking to the sales guy and going through what all I'd need, I just went ahead and ordered it. I got a custom bulkhead fitting that I will probably hide on my shaved firewall. I'm gonna have to come up with a custom mount setup for the under the dash setup, and probably have to order some hard lines once i have it installed. I will probably also have to get a few fittings to connect my newer style compressor with the rest of the system. The guy I talked to on the phone was pretty helpful. I got the setup to install the factory dash outlets too (mine is a non a/c cab) and I'll also be using the factory style A/C controls....though the guy told me it won't operate exactly like factory....no biggie to me. I called them up initially just to see if they could do a custom setup, but ended up just ordering it before I got any of your inputs. So, how do people like thier Old Air setups? Oh, this is the "Hurricane" setup if that matters. |

Re: Ordered Old Air A/C system.
The fogging issue is a heat mode problem, not an AC problem and it is also a more northern problem. Factory HVAC systems always pull fresh air in heat mode. Using heating and recirculation mode (*some cars can) usually ends up fogging your windshield. Most of the after market full HVAC systems use only recirculated air, no fresh air. There has also been the occasional complaint about not enough heat. The complaints are few and far between because only a few of us will put piles of money in our trucks and then drive them in the salt belt states in 0° weather.
Not going to drive in your ride in the winter? No problem. * Dodge Neons on some years had a separate fresh air/recirculate switch. The manual tell you to NEVER run the heater in recirculate mode or you windows will fog. And it did. Not long after I started working in a Ford HVAC lab, we had a class on Auto type HVAC systems. The same statement was printed in Ford HVAC training manual. |
