Best Way to Install Engine, Trans & Transfer Case (Bare Frame)??

Newb....with another basic question!

I'm getting my frame back from powder coating this weekend and will begin the re-assembly process of the chassis and driveline....I'm just wondering what is the best (easiest) way to re-install the engine, trans and transfer case..??

Should I hook it all together on the ground and than simply cherry pick it in as one unit?....or should I install just the engine first....then the trans & X-case as a seperate unit.....or all three pieces installed individually?

Any help would be appreciated?

Thanks, Dan

I think it`s too much all together.I`d start with the transfer case and work forward. If the t-case & transmission are mated then that`s fine to install as a unit.I never tryed, but can`t imagine my hoist handling all three as a unit.I`m not sure I could get centered with the weight and it`s lop-sided.I wouldn`t want to deal with lining up mount holes with that big of a chunk and would rather line up the t-case and then the motor seperately.

here at work, when i do a frame swap, i pick it all up at one time. i hook my chains to the engine & then i run a come-a-long from the transfercase rear output up to the hook on the cherry picker. then i just use the come-a-long to winch up the rear half until it's level. so far, it has always worked great.

I did mine all at once but be careful, not all hoist can handle it and you should have a buddy to help...

I used a chain on the engine and a ratchet strap towards the end of the TC...

Do it as a unit, hanging from a loader. It is the easiest way you will ever install an engine.

Because it's a frame off you have good access. If you have the lifting device one assembly would be the best. Although that can be a problem in the assembly dept. I'd strongly consider doing the tranny/trans first as an assembly then the motor.
