will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
I have a chance to pick up a dana 60 from an 84 D30 1-1/4 ton military truck.
( just a heavy 1 ton) I believe it should bolt in with just a few changes, brake lines and light stuff. Any ideas. Will the leaf spring distance work. I don't have access to the truck right now for measurements. Thanks |
Re: will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
I know the leaf spring perches are in the correct position for all GM Dana 60's. Front driveshaft may need to be modified. I'm still a little fuzzy on steering linkage though. I'm doing this project on my 69 hopefully in the near future - if I can find some free time.

Thanks Yukon, The leaf spacing was my concern on the 84.
Everything else can be made to fit. |
Re: will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
it will bolt right in & steers off the left knuckle just like u're 1/2 ton.

don't forget to snag the u- bolt plates... they are different.

I'm picking up a D60 out of a 85 CUCV this weekend.... If I can't get the ubolt/plate are they still available? If so anyone got any good sources? |
Re: will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
Quite a few places offer new ones made from mild plate steel, but I haven't seen any with the threaded holes for the swaybar. You can snag used OE off ebay once in a while.

Re: will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
Just an FYI, the Ford D60 fronts from 78 and 79's will bolt in too if you ever run across any of them cheap. I know it doesn't help in this thread, but I thought I would add that as it is neat to know if you have any divorced tcases.

Re: will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
The steering will need to be modified, I moved to a newer ps box and used the drag link that came with my 10 bolt axle.
The 68 had a manual gearbox and a different draglink for the closed knuckle |
Re: will 84 dana 60 fit 68 front?
It is a regular cab chevy truck. The 24 volt setup diesels. It is one of the camaflage (spell?) trucks like the
CUCV blazers. I already have a front disk mid 70s D44 from a 3/4 ton in it so the stearing and brake lines are already pretty much set up. |
