Annoying Rear End Vibe
Well I narrowed down my vibration at speeds over 55+. It seems to be coming from the back of the truck somewhere as I can duplicate it on jackstands.
So far, I have swapped the rear rims/tires, had a entirely new driveshaft made and balanced (old one was bent), and I just pulled the rear apart to check it over. All the bearings look fine. It seemed both axle shafts had some excessive runnout so I replaced those as well. I'd have to say after all that there is little to no change in th vibration. What else can it be? The only things I havent physically touched is the actual rear end housing and tailshaft bushing in the transfer case. Any thoughts? I'm getting tired of putting money into it w/o any changes. |
Re: Annoying Rear End Vibe
well i had same thing, i rebuilt transmission, then like you a brand new driveshaft made and new slip yoke, still noisy, so took rear end cover off and jacked wheels up and found about 3 teeth off .. not a good start on this truck.
so orederd a new ring gear and pinon, also changed pinion yoke i guess ya call it, the one on ya rearend that holds the driveshaft. you may wanna check that mine was spread and the lil metal tabs that holds the u joint in place was wore about off. hope you have better luck than i did. |
Re: Annoying Rear End Vibe
The gears looked fine, although the backlash was a little looser then I like to see it. It was between 0.012 and 0.013, while spec is 0.006-.0010.
