HEI Install Help!

Everything is all installed. I went to start the motor and the starter will not turn over when turing the key/ignition switch. I was able to turn the starter over to set the distributor using remote starter switch. Why won't it turn over with the key? Help!

OK just to clarify, The starter motor isn't spinning at all, or it's turning over but not firing up?

You eliminated your resistor wire? Is your power to hooked up to IGN. UNFUSED at the fuse box?

Check to be sure you have the power wire (probably purple) hooked up to the solenoid. It should be on the post that is NOT marked "R".

Removed resistor wire and yellow wires to coil and solenoid. Ran 10 gauge wire from harness block where white wire used to be. Have 12 volts to coil with ignition on. Purple wire is on S side of solenoid. If starter turns over with remote starter switch hooked up at solenoid and not at ignition switch it seems that ignition switch has gone out? I am going to trace purple wire back from starter to ig switch with test light.

If you have an automatic you will have a neutral start switch which needs to be in neutral or park to start the vehicle. Jiggle the shift lever lever with the key in start and see if that helps. You could also check for 12 volts at the starter solenoid S terminal with the key in the start position.

Found the problem. Traced purple wire back to harness block at firewall. Removed block and reattached. It started right up. Terminals in block must not have been lined up. Set the timing and took it for a spin, runs much better than with point dist!

Don't forget to re-gap your spark plugs to .045.
