Carb trouble
On steep inclide/declines I need to make sure I stay on the pedal or the truck stalls. I also have to pump the pedal LOTS when the truck sits for more than 3 or more days.
The carb is a Edelbrock 600 which is basically an old Carter AFBstyle. I have run AFB's before and had great luck. I was thinking doing a basic rebuild but don't want to wast my time if edelbrock turned the old AFB into a piece of junk. Any clues? |
Re: Carb trouble
Holley makes an off road carb that works really well for steep hill/inclines. I believe that a Quadrajet will be better than what you are running also. Splash is a problem with 4x4's and thats what it sounds like is happening to you.

Re: Carb trouble
I was going to suggest a Holley offroad carb for 4x4ing as well. Know a couple kids with them that are very pleased. I had an eldelbrock in my last truck and went and played in the hills with no major issues though. Maybe try a rebuild if you want to go that route. I believe I had the 650 cfm one.

Re: Carb trouble
I do think there is a kit you can buy for Holley's. FI helps and thats why a lot of serious off roaders have gone to it.

Re: Carb trouble
I had the same problem with the edebrock carbs. even put the off road spring kit in and still sucked off roading. would stall and flood. then i got a stage 2 quadajet from jet performance. It worked great!! never had any problems and got even better gas mileage.

Re: Carb trouble
ive gots a holley on top of my 350
i floor it.. bounce it, incline, decline.. downshift decline...mud pit romp... never an issue with it.. the only sputtering i get or reduction of power i ever really notice is when i suck water in.. but that's my own fault |
