5.7 vortec pwr steering pump removal

I am having trouble removing the power steering pump from the vortec. I want to remove the ac bracket, my 69 will be non air truck. I need to get the ps pulley off. It has a hex in the center of the shaft. Left hand or right hand threads? Ive tried it both ways and cant get it to turn. What am I doing wrong? thanks!!

Are going to keep the power steering? You said you want to remove the a/c bracket. I believe they are one in the same. There are 3 bolts to the head. 1 in the block & 1 on the exhaust manifold. If your concern is to just remove the pump itself you have to remove the pulley to access the three bolts behind it.

Larry, the hex head is misleading, ignore it. The pulley is pressed on, even though it doesnt look like it. Notice the radial grove on the OD of the pulley hub? A special puller is used to grip this to remove it. As said above you can get one at an auto parts store. Some may loan it to you, or sell one. But many of the big chain auto parts stores will rent you one. Once you have it, the pulley is off pronto. Dont hammer on the pump/pulley it will be damaged.
Luck to ya Larry

Thanks for the info. Your right, the hex is very misleading. It'l be friday before I have a chance to work on it again, but now I know what im up against. I think I have a puller.
