Help with ECE drop kit
 

Ok, I have a 70 shortbed stepside that I just put on a 4/6 drop kit on today from ECE. Only did the rear as my front end is apart right now. I installed everything correctly and went together pretty easy. When I lowered it down off the floor jacks, I took a measurement from the floor to the center of the wheel well arch. Driver side is 29" and passenger side is 28 1/2". You wouldn't think a 1/2 inch would make that much of a difference but it is very apparent. The track bar isn't adjusted yet because the front end is apart. My questions are:
1.Does the track bar adjustment make the truck level from side to side in the back?
2.Could it be that I have to adjust the springs on how they sit on the trailing arm? Maybe loosen the spring cups and hand turn the spring and tighten them again?
Maybe when the front end goes together and I get the front off the floor jacks and down on the ground, it will correct itself. Any help and/or suggestions are appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about it right now. A lot of things can make it sit a little funny. Wait until you get the front end back together with a motor in it. Even then, it may take a few days or weeks for the suspension to settle down. After you have the whole truck together and running, drive it a while then retighten everything and check on a level ground. I've seen many people say a drop isn't right only to find out the ground is not that level, or the weight in the truck is uneven, or the frame itself is a little bent. Also check to make sure all your cab, and front end mounts are in good shape. They can make things look funny.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I'm not too worried about it just yet. Like you said, alot of parts still have to go on( front end, motor, trans, etc.) The cab bushings have already been replaced with urethane ones and I put those in last month. I just needed someone to confirm that I should't be worried yet.

how big of rear tires you running? Wouldnt a 6inch rear be lower than 29 "s

I'm planning on running steel smoothies with baby moons front and back. 15x7 235/70/15 whitewall in front and 15x8 275/60/15 whitewall in back. Both tire sizes are 28" tall exactly.

For what its worth I put ECE drop springs 3/5 in a GMC shorty last year. The drivers side was 3/4" lower in the rear than the passenger side. I went as far as swapping the rear springs around and swapping tires around yet the drivers side stayed lower in the rear. I didnt see anything bent or tweaked yet never did figure out why it sat like that. I had replaced the front springs at the same time also.

Well, at least I know I'm not crazy!! Thanks for the heads up on the GMC. I didn't think I was the only one going through this. Did it ever settle down or did you just live with it? I would imagine looking from the back of the truck, it would appear that a spring was broke by how it sagged on one side.

Well, the body is original to the frame(all numbers match) and no body damage is evident. The cab, frame, trailing arms, and bed has zero rust. So I am hoping the frame isn't tweaked. I am the third owner of this truck and the PO picked it up in Georgia and never drove it, sat in his shop for 3 years before I bought it. I'll just wait and see how it goes when the truck is back together, I might get lucky!

The same thing happened with my new rear springs. A buddy convinced me to swap the taller spring to the driver side so that when I sit in the truck, my weight will level them out;)

I had a new Silverado lowered about a year ago and had the same leaning look for about 10,000 miles. It finally settled out.

I had the same problem on my step side, fought it for a week.
Check your rear fenders and make sure they are the same hight
and distance, if you losen the bolts up it will give you a half inch.
This worked for me, hope this helps.
