sending unit float
I have a friend that has 67 stepside. He has replaced the float on the sending unit about 4 times. The floats keep getting cracks in them. Has anyone else had this problem? He said has checked for burrs on the arm. Thanks for the help. Mike

Re: sending unit float
Is he using quality one or cheap repops? I got one from a GM dealer last April I don't know if they were NOS or they are still an active part though. If you can get them i would suggest that as long as the arm has no burrs.

I'm still trying to find the right solution. I think that jeeps had plastic ones that would fit on the arms we have. I saw them on a jeep websight at some point. But I'm not sure.
Shawn here is a pick of one off a cj from like 55-86 I think. |

Maybe this is the answer! |
Re: sending unit float
Thanks for your help. I was thinking that maybe the ring that snaps over the float may be to tight. After time it causes the float to crack. It's just a pain to have to keep changing it out. I also thought that maybe the floats are cheap. Mike

Maybe the newer ones are thinner or not built the same. |
Re: sending unit float
I have had the same problem and need to change it again. I have used GM and aftermarket and both have gone to crap as every one seems to develop a pin hole and not always near the retainer for the arm. Good to know other are having the same problem , thought it was just me.....
