Dana 44 front axle
1970 3/4 ton 4wd 4speed 350cid. How many splines on the front axles. Need to know for addition of a traction device. Thanks for any info.

Re: Dana 44 front axle
Call Randy's RIng & Pinion and order old school on the phone, but I think they are 30 spline. But my reason for posting is to suggest if you are serious about performance, ditch that drum front and get a later model disc brake setup. The late 72 and up have larger u-joints in the axles, definitely something you are going to want with a front end traction device, and the open knuckle axle steers a BUNCH better.

Re: Dana 44 front axle
the 70 is already an open knuckle so all he'll need to do a disk swap (if he wanted to) is put on the stuff from a the knuckle out off of a disk front.

Re: Dana 44 front axle
Thanks for the info guys. I have already swapped the front drums over to disc brakes from a '72 3/4 ton 4x4. The rear drums were also much wider on the '72 which I believe had the HO72 not the 52 so I swapped those as well. The truck stops so hard and straight it's unbelievable, so it was well worth the work. Im adding a soft locker up front. The rear already had a NO-SPIN. I was not going to lock the front but I really enjoyed the lockers in my Rubicon. I will post up some pics of my ride when I get a chance. I think you guys will like it. 25,000 original miles documented and it shows. Some people get really upset over modifying something this original, but I am proud to use this truck for what it was intended for. I have kept every stock part removed from the truck which was originally built for the fire dept. and it still looks unchanged besides having a bed instead of the fire dept work box behind the cab. Yes, I drive it every day. Old school steel for sure.
