67 Crossmember

Hey ya'll,

My dad and I installed a 283 w/ a 3 O/D manual a few days ago. Everything went great until we got to the crossmember. We tried to slide it in place, (came out of a 71) and it wouldn't fit. When we held it up under the frame, it is actually longer than the frame is wide. Has anyone else run into this problem and if so, how did you correct it?

Thanks in advance,

Brandon

My 67 has the same issue with the original crossmember. I didn't think it was right, but it is. Install them the same way you get them out......with a BFH.:metal: It is a tight fit, but it will push the frame out and then it will settle against the frame flush once you get it in. You have to use some persuasion but it will fit! My cab and bed were off when I took mine out so that may have helped some with the frames ability to open wider.
