water problem
 

im new on here and im restoring my 72 C10 but im having a problem with water getting in from in between the top of my cab and the door. Is there anything that i can do to stop the leaking. Its starting to rust out the bottom of my doors. please help

weatherstripping and water problem
 

I'm restoring my 72 C10 and water keeps leaking in between the top on the door and the cab. I have weatherstripping around door frame in the cab where the groove for it is but there is no groove for it on the door. I was wondering if there were two sets of weatherstripping that go in the cab and each door, or there was weatherstripping or something that also goes on the door itself that will keep water from getting in and running down and settling at the bottom of my door and sill. It is starting to rust.Please help.

Is that new weather stripping? I'm running the press on type from GMC Paul's, no leaks. Does make the doors a little harder to shut and I'm too lazy to readjust the door strikers.

Welcome to the forum.

First, I'd make sure it's not coming from the rain gutter area. These trucks are notorious for rusting there and because it's unseen it wreaks havoc before you know what's happening.

Check carefully on the upper cab corners above the windshield area for damage. Hopefully it's not where it's coming from because they don't make roof top patch panels.

Otherwise, as Jhart mentioned, check the door gaps and make sure you have some good rubber on them. I used the GMCPauls push on type of seals and has worked great on my 68.

the weatherstripping around the cab is new. Im just wondering if there is anything that i can put on the door itself to stop the water from coming in

As was mentioned, you may have to adjust your doors. If that doesn't work, I guess you can rig something up but I don't know of any type of seal that is specifically made for the door.

Hey Bskard, when I redone my truck I had to put my knees against the inside of the door and pull the top of the frame in to get it to seal off, it was slightly pushed out, it doesn't take much to get it to seal off, Hope this will help you out:smoke:

This isn't by any means professional, but I've used camper tape to help seal up doors that kept leaking no matter what I did, you know the stuff you put on the bed of your truck before you put on the camper shell. It works, even if it isn't pretty:

Hey, Bskrd, just thought of something I used on my 69 to keep the rain out with window partially open. They were the stainless steel or chrome window visors. Not sure if it will help your situation, but may be worth a try. I bought mine at a local auto parts store but that was about 18 yrs ago...
