Door Handle Push Button

What's the best way to repair pushed in outside door handle button. Looks like spring collapsed or keeper finally broke. Or just get a new pair of door handles from Brothers. Are all door handles the same from 67-72 trucks. I don't know firsthand, but I've heard that replacement handle fit is give and take. Any comments welcome. Thanks

what year are you working with?

I'm guessing he's got a 71 K20 and he's in Southern California.

Not all years are the same. The '67 is slightly different in how it mounts from the backside. Basically the screws are angled whereas in other years they're straight.

Probably what's happened with yours is that the plate holding the spring has come off the back of the handle. Long story short- these are made of pot metal and can be a pita to repair. It's much easier to replace the handle and replacing them with new or used will depend on the condition of your truck and budget.

I took mine apart because it wouldn't open from inside or out, cleaned it all up wd40'd it and put it back together it was pretty easy. It's just a bunch of springs and clips.

Mine were shot. Could have bought very used ones for about $20 each, but didn't know how long they would last. Bought new ones for $25 each and they work great. Only thing I had to do was add a couple of small washers inside the door to get them nice and tight. That was re-using the original screws. Not crazy about the gaskets that came with them either, but they work OK.

Red71c10- Yeah that's about what I can get new ones for. I guess they're all from overseas now. Man, I was hoping to tinker with the old originals as the chrome finish still looks pretty good.

I just bent the tabs and used JB Weld and new springs on mine. :metal:

It's more fun to take the old ones apart and make them work.

Normally I would agree, that's what I try to do with most things, but the originals were really shot and I probably just wanted something shiny and new on my rusty old truck so I went with the repros.
