Newer truck seats
 

Hey,

Anyone out there using newer tahoe/suburban/silverado/sierra/denali seats? the bench with the middle seat/arm rest. Any modifications needed? does it use the original bolt holes?

I`ve seen them used.Not sure about the bolt-up.I hear some say it cramps the cab due to the "fullness" of the seats.

I guess it has been about 10years ago I put a 60/40 split seat out of a '92 GMC in a '72 Chevy truck and it fit ok, but did require drilling a few more holes. Where I drilled the holes I put a plate metal underneath the cab to strenghten the floor.

That year seat was not of the overstuffed type like some of the newer years.

I've used 90s style seats in a couple of 67 -72 trucks. I've used some of the existing holes then drilled through the floor for the remaining bolts. One thing highly recommended (such as by ShyGuy) is to plate/reinforce the floor when drilling holes in a new location to accommodate the newer (or any, for that matter) seats. I like to sit fairly close to the wheel, probably helped along by my 5' 3" wife, so I wasn't uncomfortable. One truck I recently sold (my avatar) to a friend and he is planning to replace the seat due to insufficient "space" for him.

I am in the process of installing 40/20/40 seats from a 2001 gmc truck in my 68. The 01 seats seem to fit better on a flat floor. This allowed me to install the fixed center section further back without hitting the back of the cab when tilted up. I cut out the raised floor section (where the front original seat mounts are). Then welded in new flat metal and will install 3/16 plate on the bottom of the flat area for strength. I feel this needs to be plenty strong because These seats have the seat belts in them. Not a hard modification, like most things it takes time.
