Educate me on Plug wires
I picked up some plug wires yesterday. They are Mallory 8mm Sidewinders.
Like these http://www.summitracing.com/search/B.../?autoview=sku I have Accel 8.8mm Spiral wires now....like these http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACC-8844/ Educate me on any differences I might have when changing to the Mallory's?? I know there is a resistance difference, but how will that effect preformance??...anything else??? Thanks in advance for your input! |
Re: Educate me on Plug wires
Less resistance is good. Less voltage loss to the plugs makes for a more complete burn which equals more power. I've done a lot of plug wire research in times past and found the MSD wires to be among the lowest resistance wires on the market. I wouldn't expect huge power differences but every little bit helps. I think you'll notice the biggest difference in a smoother idle.

Re: Educate me on Plug wires
MSD is the guys that make the distributors, spark boxes, crank pickup, etc etc basically anything ignition related you can go to their webstie or find them on summit

Re: Educate me on Plug wires
Oh and just in case your curious I think MSD stands for Multiple Spark Discharge

Re: Educate me on Plug wires
On my daily driver, I put the MSD 8 MM plug wires, the higher voltage coil, a MSD 6AL spark box and this is all to ensure that there was a complete burn of the high dollar gas that I have to put in my truck. It is granted that the performance gains were not immediately felt in the seat, BUT the results of the fuel burn is indicated in my daily mileage and my low end torque is better. I average around 19.5 to 20 MPG with a 5.7 liter, 700R4 truck and this is with a TBI fuel injection system. The truck has a good pull on acceleration and maintains a good power band on the highway. My plugs seem to last longer and the engine fires in any weather conditions.
I have gone through two of the MSD coils (due to them shorting out) and now I will no go back to them, they seem to be inferior to the factory Delco coils, so that is up to each and every one that purchases the products. |
