'48 open panel anyone know about them??

driving down a country style road i saw what appeared as a 48 panel with the sides open like a pickup. the sides were angled out like the pickup back then but it had the top and what appeared to be the back of a panel wagon. did they make these type trucks maybe for the corner fruit & veggie stands back then. i did want to get to close because i don't like going on someones land that far .

They were a factory truck. You are also correct that they were used by produce farmers to haul for fruit stands and such.I have seen a couple in fields and wrecking yards but few seem to have been restored. They had canvas sides on some so that they could be closed off from the weather.I would assume many rusted away due to the open sides. You should check and see if the owner of the property would be willing to get rid of it.You could at least trade some parts off of it if nothing else. The correct ID for them is Canopy Express.1429 1/2 tons were built in 48,there are none listed as 3/4, but1674 one tons are listed in my Red Book.
