Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
I purchased a set of buddy buckets from a board member out of Canada. They shipped quickly and came with no problems. I had them shipped here to my office (was easier for me)
Boss came in yesterday with a bill from UPS for 25 bucks. It had to do with the seats. I called UPS up. Basically they charge a fee of 25 bucks to inspect all packages valued at 200 dollars and up. Shipper put a value of 228 on the seats. So make sure anything you get from Canada has stated value of 199 or less. |

Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
I live in canada and I ordered a helmet from ebay last year, when ups came he gave me a bill for shipping I was confused because the seller said shipping was included. But he said they have a fee for inspection for crossing the border. I dont think it came to over 200 tho so Idk why I got charged....

No offence to anybody if they work for them , but i won't send /receive anything through ups. The brokerage/shipping, fee's kill any savings i might get buying somthing out of the states. I try and have everything shipped usps, or have it sent to a mailing address in Blaine , and go pick it up myself.

I was unaware of the fee for anything over $200 coming into the states, though...my work comes back to me without charges...maybe because it's mine, and it hasn't be purchased/sold? |
Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
Yep, UPS will charge a brokerage fee anytime a package crosses any border.
I've seen the fee as high as $50 and as far as I'm aware they charge it on just about value. Fedex is about the same... As someone said, anytime you can use USPS or Canada post you at least avoid the fees. but.... anyone shipping to Canada, also be prepared for the mailman, UPS etc to have their hand out to collect the taxes too - no difference than if you went to the US yourself and drove it back with you. Sometimes marking the item as a 'gift' will slip it through without taxes - I do it all the time with stuff from Hong Kong. |

:canada:
For you canadians that live close to a border, get a mailing adress in the united states  saves ALOT of money |
Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
She told me anything shipped air freight wouldn't have this problem. Seem like anything shipped that way would be much more expensive...especially a heavy set of seats.

Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
I do frequent sales on ebay and have shipped stuff to Canada. If it gets shipped and stated as a gift you can ususally get around those fees.

Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
I NEVER deal with UPS. They shaft you with bogus “inspection” & exorbitant “brokerage fees”. No thanks UPS. And after my buddy showed me why everything I did pay fees for arrived broken (he worked at the local UPS Depot…), I now negotiate all my stuff to be shipped via USPS & still sometimes the shipper screws up & I get it via UPS. To combat this, I only give my PO Box #. UPS will not deliver to a PO Box & they end up calling you for your address so they can deliver... I then refuse the shipment. My goods are returned to the shipper, they pay for the UPS charges that they screwed up on & they ship it again to me via the requested method - USPS.

Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
Yah anything we that can be shipped via the mail either way is usually the best deal crossing the border. It's usually reliable as well. Speedy not so much. UPS I avoid at all cost.

Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
When they opened up the box to check it out they knocked loose the brackets that hold parts of the seat to the frame. They are pretty snug fitting, gotta give em a whack to get em loose. When the box got to me I heard hardware rattling around in the seat frame box, I know the shipper packed this stuff really good with no loose stuff in this box. Unfortunatly the box was partially open and one of the four brackets disappeared into the sunset. Guess the UPS repackeruppers dont really care too much.

Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
Just saw this, sorry to hear about the hassle. Are you talking the angle bracket? They were in the plastic container, or di that get opened?. Do you want to split the extra cost?? Or do I owe you a few beers next time I come down that way.
We always get the extras up here, but I did not know it went the other way also. I have shipped many sets of bedwood to the States, and I have never had anyone say anything about the extra charges. Darren |
Re: Heads up...Getting parts from Canada?
LOL...No Darren you and I are good. Wasn't your fault at all. These are the brackets that hold the metal box part of the buddy bucket on. Ill just rig something up. I have a whole extra set, I can snag one of those till I work something out.
