Head-ache
 

Just completed a headswap on my 350sb. Fired up last night, but could not get it to run properly. Found out today all my cylinders are flooded with cooling water. What have I done wrong? My new heads are Brodix spec alu heads. The heads are used, but I doubt they are cracked up.

That's not good. Head gasket failure? Someone will chime in.

Any used head needs to go to the machine shop to be pressure tested and resurfaced. Especially aluminum heads that may have been overheated in the past. Hope you get it figured out.

What kind of gaskets did you use? Aluminum heads use a special head gasket. What torque sequence/pattern/poundage did you use?

To have water in all of them isn't good. Did you know any history of the heads? Did you get them from a friend....stranger..etc??

I totally agree with sending them to the machine shop first.

With Aluminum heads, as yours they could be warped so bad that they don't seal well even after being torqued down.

Thats why i dont use alum heads. Well i love how they perform i just dont want to relace them if my truck gets hot.
And yeah where did you get them? Could be warped, cracked anything. Send em to a machine shop.

that sucks. I learned this the hard way too, I had an old taurus (notorious for overheating, blowing head gaskets, warping heads). It had water in the oil, so I pulled the heads, swaped gaskets, bolts, etc, come to find out when I fired it up it had low comp on two cylinders and water in the oil. So pulled them off again and sure enough they were warped up good, so I had them resurfaced and then they sealed up right. So now I take the heads to the machine shop every time.
