Just picked up a '69

I picked up this '69 this weekend. It's in pretty good shape, with the rust in the usual places and a few electrical issues. I did have to replace the p.s. pump, but now there is alot of air in the system. Anyone have a suggestion for removing the air, I have'nt done alot of p.s. work.

Jack the wheels up first so there is less resistance then go stop to stop. Make sure you don't run out of fluid.

Looks like a '71, to me (grille/5-lugs/rearview mirror). I am guessing that you matched the title to the VIN on the cab. Looks pretty straight. Good find.

I was about to say the same thing.

As it does not look like any '69 I have ever seen.

Nice truck in any case.

Congrats!

they don't use titles there, so the seller was probably confused. Does the VIN start with CE141xxxxxxx or maybe CS141xxxxxx?
welcome to the board from central ohio.
Looks like a decent 'ole truck. Whats the plans?
On the power steering deal, since you started from dry, here's the steps we took at work when we were rebuilding the P/30 trycks. (same steering system you have)
fill full of fluid
jack up front end
With the engine not running turn wheel SLOWLY from full left to full right a few times
walk away for a half hr
Lock to lock a few times again (engine still off) and walk away for a half hr.
lower truck, check fluid level. if low, bring it to a little over full. If a little over, then leave it alone, if way overfull, suck some out with a turky bastor from the kitchen. (you own that now)
Fire up engine, and at an idle, and on the ground, turn from lock to lock holding the wheel against the lock for about a second on each stop. If it is groaning and making all kinds of noise, then shut it off anf let it sit. If it did it fairly quiet, then crank it back and forth again.
Once it feels right and sounds right, then set your fluid level at full cold and then drive it and check it again, and top it off to full hot.

Yes, this is a little long and drawn out, but it works great, and hardly any foaming of the fluid is formed, which can take quite a while to bleed out when you pump foam (air) to the gear box.

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try. The VIN starts with CE141 and if I read it right, according to the chart in the Classic Parts catalog it's a '69. I will check it again to make sure. I'm new to the site and also new to these trucks, although a long-time fan, so I'm definately learning. I'm sure I'll need more help and pointers as I go along.

I double checked the VIN and it is CE149..., so I guess it is a 1969 model with a later grill. I don't know anything about what the 5 lug on the rear means, but it has had a disc brake install done on the front. Appreciate the help.

wow if somebody already did the Disc brake conversion for you, your Lucky, but nice truck even if its a 69

Yeah, if the disc brake conversion is already done, you lucked out. Just count your blessings and rejoice!
