What is the difference between a 1 ton frame and a half ton frame?

I have a half ton frame that I converted to a 4x4 using DIY4X parts. I have a 14 bff in the rear, and a dana 60 up front. I was thinking of getting a 1 ton frame to use instead of the 1/2 ton frame. I will probably use the truck to tow a horse trailer and haul gravel and mulch occasionally. I just want a tough truck I can actually use. Is it worth switching out the frames. How much thicker is the 1 ton? I am a new member to this site, but I've been reading the posts for a year or so. Thanks for any help.:gmc2:
