trans swap

I have a 69 K10 with a 3 speed. I want to swap out the 3 speed with a sm465
Can I use a sm465 form an 86 chevy truck? Will it work with my transfer case, and will I have to move crossmembers or shorten the driveshaft? Thanks

An '86 465 will work in your truck, but you will need to get the t-case that goes with it. Most of the GM 3 spd 4x4s either came mated to a rockwell t-case or a Dana 20, which is also used in jeeps and scouts. The input on all of these will be different than the output of an '86 465. An '86 465 4x4 tranny will have a 32 spline output just like a th400. Your t-case options in factory form are gonna be NP208, NP205, or NP 241 from '88 up old body style blazers, suburbans, crewcabs, and a handful of GMC single cab trucks were built in the '87 and earlier style( 1 ton only IIRC). I am using a '97 NV4500 mated to an '86 205 in my '72 4x4 build on this board. I have also swapped it to use a hydraulic clutch.
