power sterring pump problems

I put a new power steering pump on and it is very hard to turn wheel. I have turned it all the way to one side and then the other to get air out but it is not getting better. It is still very hard to turn the wheel.

What could this be? Do I need to drain the fluid and start over?

I presume it is correct for your application, I ask because I have seen others use a pump that was designed for a different application which had different sized inlet valve and it caused an extreme restriction, thus causing slow movement. Also, I would guess you have no restriction in your pressure hose? it's not kinked, old and spongy and collapsing etc...

Did you try jacking up the front end of the truck, just get the wheels off of the ground. It makes it alot easier to bleed.

All hoses fit and are correct size. Nothing is restricted. I matched it up with the old one before I put it on.

I went out today and once again turned the wheel all the way to the right and held it and then to the left. It does not seem to be getting any better.

I do have a little squealing and I wonder if the pump belt is too loose I will look tomorrow would that cause this problem? Just thought of that unless it is the alternator belt squealing ????.

you still fail to mention if the tfrontend is jacked up while you're doing the turning

Make sure the fluid is at the correct level. Just did mine last weekend and had the same problems you have. It was just a lttle bit low, and when I added to the correct level it bleed and started working as it should.

I tightened the belt and checked flue and added some and it is getting better. I will turn wheel again tomorrow and that should do it. Thanks!!
