Please help

i bought a 72 swb not long ago that im working on and im cleaning it out tonight and happen to look at the vin plate on the door jam and notice the vin# dont match the vin# on my sticker in the glove box..so then i realize the glove box isnt the original,,,therefore i dont know what color my truck came out with factory, what package it came with, or nothing about it.. is there some kind of web site i can run my vin# on and pull up all my trucks info., or am i gonna have to call the dealership ?

There are no specific records for each truck like PHS. Do you have any pictures of the truck?

It's a long shot, but have you looked for a build sheet? They are usually tucked between the seat springs and the padding. Could be either in the seat bottom, the back or even both. If you find one, have someone pull the springs away from the padding while you (very carefully) get the sheet out. My '68 had one, but sadly my '71 did not.

Re: Please help

look between the cab and bed, behind the gas tank, under the dash, and under the bed floor, those areas are very rarely repainted.

follow 2tons of fun's advice. Do your homework. Check build date on blue mfg. label back side drivers door for build date then check date codes on engine, heads trans etc. You will have fun...Remember " the thrill is in the hunt not in the kill"

Sometimes it will tell the colors on the title. You can look up the VIN here:

There are also some frame no's. There will be one no. then letter to designate build plant and a squential run of your trucks s.n.
2Zxxxxx would be 72 yr, manufactured in fremont ca. You can see if the frame numbers match the cab or spid label.
