California license plates

I am looking for pictures of what a California license plate would look like, that would have been on a 1960 truck.
Anything from 1960 to the 90's is what I am looking for.

Here's what the 1963 black plates looked like on my 1960 GMC back in the early 90's.

As noted on the license plate link above, commerical vehicles (including all pickup trucks) required commercial plates (including those that were privately owned). These had a different numbering sequence than passenger cars, which may be important if you are doing a restoration.

Rumor had it back then, if you did not run commercial plates on a pickup and got caught with so much as a loaf of bread in the bed, you were subject to something like a $500 fine. I have no way of confirming if this was true or not.

yellow with black numbers is correct ... 1956/1962 . now in 1963 came the black plate till 1969 in 1970 was blue . now you see alot of 1969 camaro's with blue plates . because there was a chevy strike in 69 so the 1969 camaro' with original blue plates were actualy built in early
1970 . just a little history that i heard. or somethin like that

Interesting web link John, thanks for posting. I knew that i wanted commercial plates on my truck (number sequence preceded or ended with a single letter), but i read that anything issued with a W or above was "commercial for hire". Never knew that, but mine starts with an X, so my truck is available for hire, officially.:metal:

Thanks for all the interesting facts and pictures, guys.
What I am looking for is a California plate to hang up in the garage (the cab of my truck came from California) and I was investigating what might have been on that truck back in the day.
Man, some of those plates can get expensive. I might just get one from the '90's.
Greg.

I originally thought a plate from 1963 would be cool, but have come to realize that any decent plate fom 1963 - 1995 (the year I bought my California cab) will do.
