Oil filter mount question
2 Attachment(s)
Alright I have a 350 casting 3970010 71-77 made in '74(ran the numbers) and I noticed something odd with the filter mount. 71+ blocks were all spin-on filters right? So they should have a mount that looks like pic one right? Even my '69 307 uses this. But mine has pic two which is a adapter for canister to spin-on? It started leaking around the top so I was just gonna replace it, not knowing its condition, but now I do not know which to get... any ideas? If it doesnt need the adapter I dont want to just replace it with a possible incorrectly used part.

Re: Oil filter mount question
Are the parts interchangeable??? Somone here did this not too long ago and I cant remember who it was. I'm sure someone would know in the engine section. My experience with a '71 400 had the spin on bracket that you show. My '69 also had a spin on.

Re: Oil filter mount question
the top pic is the normal spin on like you said , the lower one mounts on top of the old style cartridge bypass block , you should be able to put the top style mount on your 010 block , I normally block the by pass spring off but you have to know your engine to do that.
Back quite a few years guys used to put an adapter on for a fram HP100 that might be the case here but I would just put the stock adapter in and run a wix 51060 |
Re: Oil filter mount question
I believe that number should be 51061
