1999 motor options
I'm looking at a '99 Blazer with a blown motor. There is a '95 motor available cheap close by, will it be a direct swap or will a lot of parts ie: intake, exhaust, sensors etc. need to be changed out. What engines would be a direct swap if this is not?
Thanks Chuck |
Re: 1999 motor options
Are you talking 4.3? If so the '95 injection system is different. Not a big deal though. Just swap all your stuff onto it.

Re: 1999 motor options
Yeah, 4.3

Re: 1999 motor options
There are two different 4.3s in 95 If its a VIN W CPI injected 4.3 it will work. If its a VIN Z TBI injected 4.3 the heads are different and your intake will not bolt on.

Re: 1999 motor options
the 96 and up heads are different from all the others. so is the fuel injection.
all 95 and older have intakes with 12 bolts while 96-up have 8 bolts. good luck finding a good used engine. I am in the process of doing one at work. we got a Goodwrench for ~$2350. |
Re: 1999 motor options
Buy the good '95 engine, put your heads and all accessories on it, then hit the road. The motor has to come out anyway. Which makes everything easy to unbolt and bolt back on. I have done stuff like that a million times. I usually strip the good engine down, throw in a new oil pump and timing set if it needs it, and all new gaskets. Clean & inspect everything, bolt all your stuff back on. That makes for a nice clean motor with no leaks!

Re: 1999 motor options
if you swap the heads look into a valve job on the 99 heads. they have problems with the guides binding to the valves causing unexplainable missfires.

Re: 1999 motor options
Found a '98 motor at a local yard with 89,000 miles for $500 plus $100 core charge. Sounds reasonable to me. Says its still in the Blazer and I can hear run, was totalled due to hit in the side.
Thanks Chuck |
Re: 1999 motor options
Sounds like that's the one I would buy.
