I don't use sand, we use something similar to sand, but for a hobbiest like us, we don't want the harmful effects sand does on the human body. I think is called something like black magic or something. It's a black looking gritty agent like sand. Trevor

Re: rally wheel sandblasting

A lot depends on the size of your compressor. My compressor puts out 13 cfm at 150 psi and it is not large enough to sandblast wheel size parts in a timely manner. (It works on small parts). If you don't have a pressure at a sustained cfm then it takes forever to sand blast a part.

the bigger the compressor the better
i've been blasting with sand outside 45years zero health issues . common sence goes a long way in protecting yourself

this is what i use outside for large stuff but smaller things like wheels i prefer the cabinet with a more aggressive media

What kind of health issues are we talking about with sand.

Silicosis. That is why you should always wear a respirator and use common sense as stated above.

Re: rally wheel sandblasting

Silica from the sand can sit in the lungs and cause lung cancer. Proof is in all the coalminers and such. Trevor

If shooting sand, pay the money and get a very good respirator, I hate to see one of the fellow members get messed up with the stuff. Just looking out for fellow members. Trevor
