? on gas tank rubber grommet

This is about the third filler neck rubber grommet I've bought for these trucks in the last 10 years. Seems like after a few years the rubber starts to break down so that it stains my fingers if I just barely touch it. If I happen to wash the truck or even wax around that area, it stains the sorrounding area.

Anyone have the same problem? And does anyone know if there is a better grommet that doesn't oxidize?

The reproductions that are out there are junk. You need to find NOS, or contact member Classic Heartbeat (Wes). He is having a company that has been in the rubber business for years reproduce them that won't crack or have that problem. He hasn't done any 67-70 yet, but he will soon. Trevor

Re: ? on gas tank rubber grommet

Thank you 71blksuper4x4. If 68gmsee has a 67-70 Chevy or GMC truck I have a few Genuine GM Gas Filler Grommets left for sale. I have sent one of those off to be reproduced by our manufacturer also, but they are still a ways off. So untill then I am hunting down Genuine GM and finding enough of them to keep my customers happy for now. WES

Wes,
Yes, it's for my 68 GMC. You list one on your site for 67-68 without EEC. is this the OEM one you mentioned?

I don't know if you meant 67-70, but you typed 67-68. They are 67-70 and yes those are the ones that are Genuine GM and will fit your 68 GMC. WES

As a matter of fact I need to go in and delete the 71-72 grommets because the last one of those I found cost me about $16.00 :waah: WES

The rubber looks like regular rubber however, I'm hoping it's made out of a better quality that doesn't oxidize like the other's I've gotten. Won't know until after at least one summer here in Texas...

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm looking to replace the tank filler grommet on my 1970 and was wondering if the ones in the link below are good ones to buy or if I should look someplace else? I would like to have NOS GM if at all possible (where could I get those? Dealership?) or failing that, what aftermarket piece would be good quality?

at the price they are selling them at, I would say it is the same cheap reproduction out there everyone else sells. WES

i've always thought the repops with chaulky and stain issues as well as the drying out and splitting was just an extra feature of them// FUAX PATINA gas filler grommets

GM # 3886792. Still available through your Chevy dealer, Sept of last year I bought several of them. These are no better that the repops. Only last about 6 months before beginning to crack.

The one I got from Wes (info above) has gone through one heck of a summer here in Texas (drought) and still holding up good. Black junk doesn't rub off on your hands.
