Are suburban 4x4 frames the same as longbed pickups? How about the differences (if any) between 1/2 and 3/4 ton? The frame on my truck is pitted but usable. But I could probably scrounge up a good pickup frame around here, not so much a burb frame. It seems like a good place to start as I get rolling on my "rebuild", whatever form it takes. Here's a picture of my daily driver in happier times.

The only difference that I know of are the frame rails at the bumper, and of course the body mounts will need to be switched. On the suburban, the rear bumper bolts to the frame and the pickup has brackets. You will also need to cut the last about 6 inches off of your suburban frame and weld it to the pickup frame rails. You may want to be patient if you possibly can, I see frames for sale here from time to time. I have one here on my parts truck that will be available when it gets a little warmer. There has been a member trying to sell one here with the two differentials, rolling, for $250 in Delaware. Great looking truck! Good luck!!

Since this isn't an emergency, I'll be patient then. The frame is heavily pitted in some isolated areas, and I could probably repair it there if necessary, but it seems like a clean frame would be a good place to start. This will never be a perfect, show quality restoration. I'm not the type. The picture was taken almost ten years ago, when I had great intentions of doing an awesome restoration. But I liked the truck too much so I ended up driving it into the ground. The 350/4spd/205 combo with 3.07 gears got 17-18 mpg and was about the best all-around vehicle I have ever owned. I would like to go back to that, without the body rust I won't show you any pictures of.

Thanks for the info and keep it coming.

There is a member in Iowa (Dins-1) I think, that has 2 burb 4x4 frames. One is a 1/2 ton and the other is a 3/4 ton. Trevor

Pickup frame to Suburban frame is definately doable. I did it (I think!). You just need to weld in Burb rear frame horns and and change/add body mount brackets 3, 4 and 5 (counting from front to back). These pics should help explain. I also filled in frame mount #6, which is oblong (sp) on a pickup and then hole-sawed a round hole for the burb round body mount. I boxed part of the frame where the rear horns are welded on and put on a Valley Industries hitch, which has a grade 8 bolts on the other side of the weld. No way it can come apart or break now.
