Olds 455 in a '70 C10
Hey all.... with some great advice from Crazy Longhorn... I talked myself into buying an Olds 455 with a TH400 transmission to put into my 1970 C10.... I have heard that I can use engine mounts from a V-8 olds.... or chevy BB.... What about the tranny crossmember? The chevy bolts to the bellhousing.... but the olds is on the tail of the tranny.... Anyone mess with that before? I have swapped motors before, but only same parts. Any advice for a newb would be appreciated!!!

You need the auto trans crossmember for the pickup(it mounts under the tail of the trans). the bell mount stick crossmember can be removed from the frame. As far as the mounts/stands/brackets, a late 70's truck with a 5.7 deisel was the donor on my swap. the eng mounts themselves will be the same as a late 60's-mid 70's cutlass(napa crossed them for me). the Chevy eng mounts wont bolt to the Olds block, but you might use the 72 BB stands to get the nose height down a little on the Olds....if you can find a set. if the truck deisel brackets arent available, you can substitute a set of olds car brackets to mount to the stands, but need to look for a set with a short height, & plan on welding them to the frame stands. That BB olds is a powerhouse, & right at home in a 4000 lb truck.........good luck, crazyL:)

CrazyL hit the nail right on the head. The 5.7 diesel motor mounts would be the best way to go. I put a 350 olds in a 49 ford F-3. I fabbed up my mounts because I didn't have any olds mounts out of the car. The one's I built are way stouter than the factory mounts anyway.
