Aluminum vs Cast Iron Intake
 

Will a Summit Racing SUM-226022 Aluminum Intake (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-226022/) out perform a GM Stock Cast Iron 3883948 Intake? I have been trying to decide this for most of the winter. If any of you has this Summit Intake do you know if it has the trunk for a divorced choke? Any help will be appreciated.

Any aluminum intake should outperform a cast iron one. They weigh less, they look cooler and usually Summits stuff is usually made by someone who already makes that product, ie Edelbrock, or Weiand in your case.

Just the heat dissipation alone with the aluminum intake is a huge benny over the cast iron intake.

I just change my 350 from cast iron to aluminum intake and what a weight difference it makes. My aluminum manifold was easily 1/2 the weight of the cast iron manifold and it will produce more power than the stock manifold

A modern recently designed dual plane intake would easily outperform the 40 year old GM design, regardless of material used to cast it. Aluminum has the added benefit of weight reduction. Don't know if it allows for a divorced choke but looking at pics of it should answer that question. If it were me, I would run the Summit Carb or a Holley with electric choke on top of that new intake.

That is great advice guys. I was hoping the Aluminum Intake would be your recommendation. Are there any benefits to going with an electric choke? I have a divorced choke right now but I do not know much about the electric choke.

I am going to go with this intake.

I am undecided on which carb to purchase. Here are the links for both the divorced and electric choke. These are JET Streetmaster Quadrajet Stage 2 Carburetors from Summit. They are identical except one is Divorced Choke and the other is Electric Choke. Is electric choke more reliable?
