Advice on rear window

I got my '67 GMC a couple weeks ago and have been fixing it up to make it a driver, cab corners and supports being worked on currently. My current question has to do with the rear window (yea, it is a small one) The seal was shot and leaking, for some time. There is some rust in the seam, here are some pictures of what the worst part looks like after hitting it with a cup brush on a grinder.

I'm thinking I can get away with grinding the area smooth, treat the rust with some rust converter and rust sealer, paint and reinstall the window with a new gasket and be done. Is this a good plan or do I need to replace the metal?

Thanks

That comes down to personal preference. I could never mentally let that go now that I've seen it if it were my truck, but you would probably be OK with your plan, however, at a bare minimum, I would weld up those pin holes!

Yeah, That would haunt me for as long as I owned the truck.

Are you doing the other repairs yourself?

Finding and welding in repair panels shouldn't be all that difficult.

Looks like you have some time while you finish up every thing else...

I agree! I would fix it. If you are the one doing the work on the corners and supports, this won't be any harder. Go ahead and do it right and you will have that feeling of accomplishment as well as peace of mind.

Let us know what you decide.
