Texas guys, how to track down an old truck???

I have regretted selling my 68 since I saw it driving away from my house in 1997. Every day since then I have wanted it back. How does Texas work as far as tracking down current owners of vehicles. I know I have the VIN # somewhere but haven't located it yet. Assuming I do, what is my next step, go to the DMV?

Here is a pic of the truck just for the heck of it...

So why did you sell it, if you have so much regrets in doing so???

Might be hard to tack down unless you know someone in the motor vehicle department or law enforcement.

But, as nice as that truck looks, you're going to have a hard time convincing whoever has it to return it.

I'm not sure how it works. I have been trying to track down a '67 Camaro I owned years ago with no luck.

Texas DMV will only tell you if it is still registered or not. If you were a dealer then you could carfax it if you know the VIN. A police officer can also see the last known registration address if you know a cool cop.

I think you can do a title search with the vin at the DMV, it's been awhile but the last time was around 6.00 .you could use this website as well, allow you to search by plate # or VIN, the info you are requesting is considered public records :

Because money would only allow one vehicle at a time and at that time I thought I needed this more...

By the way, I regret selling the Vette also!

My67 thanks for the link, I will give it a try when I find the VIN.

don't waste your time with that site

*VIN Number search must be made using a 17 digit VIN Number. 13 and 11 digit VIN records are not searchable.

Yeah, starting to realize that, maybe I can find a friend at the DMV or with a badge.

I once tracked down a vehicle in VA using their DMV Information Request Form. Public records should be available from all gov organizations.

Nope, it had a custom pipe bumper painted white on it when I last saw it. I built that bumper in shop class when I was 17. You can see the corner of it sticking out in the pic.
