fuel problem

so ever since i put an electric fuel pump on i have noticed that i always smell gas more than usual. also i am going through gas like crazy. checked my lines and they are not leaking. the fuel pump is the rated for carb pressure. also the vapor canister is not hooked up and the line from the tank to canister is not capped. would that make a difference. its a pita going 20 miles and using more than a 1/4 tank.

Definitely need to look for leaks somewhere first. Look carefully under the gas tank for pin holes. I had a few that were so small the gasoline was evaporating before it reached the floor. But, I sure smelled it in the summer heat.

Another thing to do is to check that gas isn't being forced out of the carb and also have someone rev the engine while you look at the exhaust. Check for black smoke indicating a rich condition.

Downs brings up a good point. Check your oil. I f you are pumping through the mech. pump, if it is bad it can pump fuel right into the crankcase.
