installing notch with bed on?
Anyone installed their c-notch with the bed still on the truck? I was hoping not to have to pull it off since I am out of garage space.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
dont have to completely remove it... but it makes it easier.
undo the bolts and put some 4x4s or ? stacked blocks between the frame and bed to raise the bed off the frame you will still need to unhook misc. stuff |
Re: installing notch with bed on?
At least raise it. Trying to do it with it on is double the work.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
I've done it three times. Just more of a pain.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
Thanks guys, how many hours?
|
Re: installing notch with bed on?
My last one was about 7 including 4 hours in the er from using a cutting wheel one handed. I would guess around 3 if you have good sharp bits to drill the holes.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
i just recently had an er visit due to using a grinder one handed got me seven stitches and light duty at work ha
but i got a question u guys just bolt the noches in or do u burn them in also ???? |
Re: installing notch with bed on?
I did mine with the bed on, 2 guys, 2 grinders, 2 drills, 4 bits (2 smaller ones for pilot holes and 2 - 1/2") And a rubber Mallet. Took us 2 hours from marking and cutting to bolting the notches on.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
Well hopefully I'll get some time Friday or Saturday to get started on it, I'm hoping it takes less than 1/2 day. It's a western chassis notch and the instructions say I dont have to take the bed off, we'll see

Take the bed off. It's a quick and simple job.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
Adam, my C10 WC notch goes above the frame rail, and bolts to the top of it as well...bed HAD to come off, or be elevated with blocking quite a bit to drill the holes and run the bolts in.

Maybe WC 1 ton notches are different...??

Re: installing notch with bed on?
Adam, call a couple guys and lift the bed. I would say come up here but I have to be at the shop extra to prep for our annual corporate inspection.

Re: installing notch with bed on?
I think the one ton's might be different

Re: installing notch with bed on?
I think that goes over the top, and the "C" flares out, towards the wheel.
If you have an engine hoist at home, maybe you could just lift teh bed enough to get some room |
