Corvette Ram's horns
 

I am tgetting ready to put the engine in my truck (350 out of a 75 impala) and was wonderng if the stock impala exhaust manifolds will fits, or if I should get a set of rams horn manifolds. I found someone local who will sell me a set of corvette rams horns for $50. Are all corvette manifolds better than truck rams horns? How do I know if they are actually off of a corvette? Will any of those fit my truck?

The guy also offered to sell me heat risers for $10 each. Do I need or want those?

As far as I know, all Corvette ramhorns are 2.5", but so are some others.... and as long as you get 2.5", who cares if they are actually from a Corvette? Others will chime in with more complete info....

You don't need a heat riser. I live in colder country than you and get along fine without it. When I had one on the truck -- and with daily short trips to work -- it helped rust out the exhaust on one side only.

I did a little bit of internet research on them and found out that corvette ones apparently dump out straight, without the curve towards the back of the vehicle like our trucks' original ones have. Has anyone out this style in their truck? What is the 2 1/2" measurement, the collector end by the studs?

The higher-horsepower 327's had the 2.5-inch outlets. I'm thinking 300 and up. But, they do dump straight down in the center, i.e., "Rams Horn" look.

I have three sets of ram's horn exhaust manifolds, but they are the smaller I.D. And, they dump straight down, not slanted to the rear like truck manifolds did.

This is what i ran into, the corvette ones will cause exhaust fabrication problems if your engine is in the V8 frame holes (forward position). The shops I went to said it was too much of a problem to get the bend that tight to make it work. I got the regular ram horns for the truck and a LMC kit and no problems.....

If its in the six position that may make a difference.....

Not all "Corvette" manifolds really came off of a Corvette, but saying they did can often bring a higher price from the uninformed. Actually, $50 for a pair isn't bad if they are what you need. Check the alternator mount boss if you running a driver side alternator, because there are at least two different configurations.

For the record, Corvette, truck, and passenger car manifolds all came with the straight down dumps at one time or another. My 60 has them, so it is likely the trucks had them at least until 66. Corvette and passenger came with both 2" and 2-1/2" outlets. Trucks, or at least the light trucks, were 2" only.

You might want to get the heat riser, just to avoid having to replace the long studs with short ones. Take out the flapper if you don't want to run it and re-install the shaft, or just plug the holes. You can also get a spacer block with nothing in it, but it will cost you more than $10.
