Thanks... |
Re: vintage license q?
alot of times you can find older ones that have never been used or have very little wear, i would look around and find some nicer ones if you are going to go through the trouble.
but yeah they will work, you can get all they info at your local secretary of state |
Re: vintage license q?
Check out this web site (http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/reg/reg352.htm), will tell you all there is to know. Most importantly, make sure the plates are clear (not registered to another vehicle). You can call the DMV your self or ask the seller if they are DMV clear. A lot of ebay sellers will guaranty clear. Those are the ones you want.

Re: vintage license q?
Let us know how this goes. I tried to do this when I lived in California. DMV would not do it for me. They said I had to have vintage plates that had once been on the car not just "clear". The aggravating part was the fact that I had California plates that were from my car (I bought a California car when I lived in Illinois and later moved to CAl).
DMV said that I had to provide proof via documentation that the plates were once issued to the car. They said that they did not have records old enough to verify the history of old tags. This happened about ten years ago so maybe DMV has changed the rules again. Good luck. Kerry P |
Re: vintage license q?
I've done this several times. Easy, just follow the instructions and fill out the DMV form from link above. You'll need to bring the following things to the DMV office.
New plates YOM year sticker (in your case a 1969 sticker) Old plates Form filled out current registration checkbook DMV will keep the form, your current plates, registration, and keep a photo copy of the new plates and 1969 sticker, and you check. They will give you a temp registration sticker and send you packing. DMV will take about 4-5 months to send out new registration and stickers. |

looks good.
I got the 69 sticker for 20 shipped today. thanks for all |
Re: vintage license q?
I just put black plates on my 67 Camaro this year and evrything that Lee H says is correct. I wanted to say that buying the YOM sticker can get pricey, so I had some plates that still had the old registration stickers on them so I took a razor blade and a hair dryer and peeled off each one until I got to the first one which was 1967,took it to the DMV they blessed it and now its on my car. save the old stickers on wax paper-you never know who will be willing to buy one from you.....good luck:lol:

Re: vintage license q?
Hello All.... I'm trying to play the YOM game here in California. I acquired some vintage black plates that need some restoring ( kind of rough).
Now i have an appointment to see the DMV next week with the unrestored plates and a new repop sticker. Do I need to apply the new sticker on the plate before I see the clerk?... Thanks for the input |
Re: vintage license q?
I lucked out and got an original black plate truck, so don't need to deal with the YOM stuff. I did pick up a first issue unused red month sticker though to go on the plates when I get them back from the tag Dr. Really looking forward to straight pristine 40 year old plates. If you go this route (plate restoration) go through and do all your DMV stuff first before you send them out, I've heard of guys that got their "too perfect" restored plates rejected. Also know that the restoration process will destroy any stickers on the plate so plan accordingly. Mine are currently in the bare metal naked stage having the creases removed.
